What is TSTT wireless broadband?
TSTT wireless broadband is a new 3G mobile internet service. It uses CDMA2000 1xEV-DO technology to provide broadband access to the internet. Because it uses a mobile wireless technology, there is no need for telephone lines and TSTT wireless broadband can be used wherever there is EV-DO coverage. Broadband internet access allows customers to enjoy internet speeds at 6 to 12 times faster than normal 56Kbps dial-up modems. TSTT wireless broadband can be used for emailing, internet browsing and corporate VPN access.
What is EV-DO?
EV-DO is a third generation (3G) wireless technology used to provide broadband access to the internet. EV-DO is based on a CDMA2000 network infrastructure and is inherently more secure than most wireless data systems in widespread use today because of the CDMA technology. EV-DO is an evolution of the CDMA2000 1xRTT data standard and stands for Evolution-Data Optimized. EV-DO is an asymmetric technology because it provides faster download speeds to the user than upload speeds from the user to the internet. This makes EV-DO an ideal broadband solution for mobile users be they corporate, residential or students.
How fast is it?
TSTT wireless broadband uses the EV-DO Revision 0 standard. This allows a maximum download speed of 2.4Mbps and upload speed of 153.6Kbps.
The exact speed that a user experiences is heavily dependent on (1) the signal strength received, (2) the number of simultaneous users in the cell site and (3) whether user is stationary or moving. High signal strength, low number of users and being stationary yield higher connection speeds. There is no minimum speed defined for the service. On average EV-DO users will experience a download speed of 400 to 700Kbps.
